Our History

Toray Plastics (Malaysia) Sdn. Berhad was established on 3 July 1990 following Toray Industries' decision to construct its first ABS polymerisation facility outside Japan, strategically located in Penang, Malaysia.

Commercial production began in 1992 with a single polymerisation line and an initial annual capacity of approximately 35,000 tonnes of ABS resin. Since then, the company has undergone multiple expansion phases, significantly increasing its production capability and product portfolio. In response to growing market demand for transparent and specialty materials, MABS (transparent ABS) production was subsequently introduced, leveraging Toray's proprietary polymerisation technology and further strengthening the TOYOLACTM brand.

With the completion of the expansion in 2021, total annual production capacity reached approximately 425,000 tonnes, positioning Toray Plastics (Malaysia) as Southeast Asia's largest ABS resin producer and a key global supplier of transparent ABS materials.

Beyond manufacturing, the company strengthened its technical capabilities by establishing a Technology Centre in 2005, later expanded in 2018, to support product development, process innovation, and customer technical services. In 2019, a Customer Experience Centre was launched to showcase ABS and MABS applications and to enhance customer engagement and collaboration.

From its modest beginnings, Toray Plastics (Malaysia) has grown into a key production and technology hub within the Toray Group, supporting customers across regional and global markets.
